Constructed in 1857 as the southern division of the Illinois State Supreme Court, Abraham Lincoln successfully argued a famous tax case in 1859. In 1888, Clara Barton used the building as a hospital. Tours are available. Please call in advance.

Jefferson County Historical Village
Unique to Mt. Vernon, you can experience the past at the Historical Village as you walk through a pioneer village of authentic log cabins, featuring a calaboose (circa 1820), the Mount Olive Church (circa 1873), a one room schoolhouse and more. Admission to the JCHV is free. The JCHV is also home to the Schweinfurth Museum, as well as several permanent and rotating exhibits, which highlight a variety of historical items from Jefferson County and the United States as a whole.

RLConfections is a chocolate factory operated through Rend Lake College and SIMA, located in Mt. Vernon, IL.
